The Hillel at Syracuse University Staff

Each year a talented group of students are elected by a group of their peers to work with the staff at Hillel at Syracuse University to engage their fellow students and create dynamic programming.

Michael Weiss, '12

Michael Weiss is a sophomore accounting and finance major from Weston, Florida. Michael has been involved in Hillel since he arrived on campus his freshman year, when he participated in FreshFest 2008. Michael served as Hillel’s Religion Vice President for the 2009 term, and is currently serving as President of Hillel for 2010. An active student, he is also involved in Oy Cappella, Syracuse University’s Jewish a cappella group, and works as a Barista at Starbucks, right here on Marshall Street! In his spare time Michael enjoys hanging out with his friends, going to the beach, cooking, and going to the gym. If you see him around – say hi!

Ari Weinberger, '12

Ari Weinberger is currently a sophomore at the SI Newhouse School of Public Communication studying television radio and film and pursuing a minor in marketing. He is serving as the Communications Vice President and is excited about the upcoming year with Hillel. Ari also is a member of Phi Sigma Pi, the National Honors Fraternity. When Ari isn't studying or having fun at Hillel, he can be seen at the Westcott, seeing the latest bands, or snowboarding in Vermont with his family. He enjoys golf, jamming out on guitar and bass with his friends, or seeing the latest movie. If you see Ari at Shabbat, a Hillel event, or around campus, feel free to say hi and introduce yourself.

Chelsea Wagner, '13

Chelsea Wagner is currently a freshman undecided major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She comes all the way from far-off, distant Rochester, NY, and has been involved with Hillel since she arrived at Freshfest 2009. Before making the trek to Syracuse Chelsea was a very active member of United Synagogue Youth as well as many other organizations in high school. When she's not at Hillel, Chelsea can usually be found hanging out with her friends, wandering around Marshall Street, doing homework, or tumbling down the steps that lead up to Mount Olympus. Chelsea hopes to get the Hillel and Syracuse community involved in social action projects throughout the year and to continue getting more involved herself.

 Zev Rose, '12

Zev Rose is a sophomore business and international relations major from Potomac, Maryland. Ever since attending FreshFest 2008, Zev has wanted to be a Hillel leader and he is looking forward to his role as Religion Vice President. Zev attended Jewish Day School for 12 years and he hopes to use his Jewish knowledge and experience to enhance the spiritual environment of Hillel. Planning activities and engaging new students is something very important to Zev, and he is excited to have the opportunity to make a real difference. Beside Hillel, Zev is very involved in University Union concert board and the campus radio station. He also loves traveling, the outdoors, and sports.

 Shoshana Torn, '13

Shoshana Torn is a freshman from Pikesville, Maryland, majoring in art history.  She is the current Israel and Cultural Vice President. Before attending SU, Shoshana was very involved with BBYO throughout high school.  She has been to Israel twice, and hopes to travel there again in the near future. At Hillel, Shoshana hopes to establish a space for Israel advocacy and have many exciting programs that engage the whole SU community.

Zach Schleien, '12

Zachary Schleien is a sophomore history major and marketing minor from Larchmont, New York. This is Schleien’s first year serving on Hillel’s Executive Board. As Engagement Vice President, Schleien is excited for all the new programs. Last summer Schleien went on Birthright and it was an amazing cultural experience. In his spare time, Zach loves sports, traveling, and hanging out with friends.

Matthew Wolfe, Hillel’s Financial Vice President is from Weston, Florida, and is a sophomore at Syracuse University. Matt spent his Freshman year at Indiana University and decided to transfer to Syracuse, where he got involved with Hillel as soon as he was on campus. Matt is a brother of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity and is a triple legacy at Syracuse. Both of Matt’s parents and grandmother attended SU. Matt is a accounting major in the Whitman School of Management.
